Vintage Hong Kong Cafe - 2019
The demo game, "Time Masters" is a narrative puzzle adventure game that features the protagonist, a time master who swore to protect time and prevent anyone from altering the history, chasing after a super villain, the Breacher. The Breacher is a time traveller who caused chaos for fun and thrills. He was pushed to the corners by the protagonist and had to time travel to his past and ancestry to hide out. The player plays as the protagonist investigating the past of the Breacher and find clues that gets him closer and closer to him. Eventually as the game progresses, the player will see Breacher lurking in the shadows watching your every move.
The game level was inspired by Hong Kong's 1960 Shanghainese-style cafe, also known as "Cha Chaan Teng" in the Cantonese culture. It is an equivalent to American diners back in the 80s.

I was responsible for everything shown in the video. Starting off with research and concept, I have based the level off of Cantonese architecture in the 1960s, incorporating essential elements to mimic the mood and setting of the time period. I created numerous modular pieces in Maya and their relative high poly models in Zbrush to mix and match in the level to create more diversity and variety for each play-through. I created the 1K textures in Photoshop and Substance Painter, which later were applied in Unity as shaders. I added lighting, scripts and VFX to enhance the level aesthetics and mood, as well as the game mechanics of the game. To further bring out the time travelling story, I added post-processing effects to create a dreamy hallucination mood. The whole gameplay video is then edited and composited in After Effects as the final touch.
